Relative Work (also called RW, Flat, Belly) is the base of all skydiving disciplines. This is the first style a skydiver learns and is the position we open our parachutes in. Speeds of descent in RW are at ~120 mph. While we all do it at some point, many of us take this style to very high levels of skill. World Records have seen 400 skydivers all connected in giant snowflake formations. Teams compete in several different games in RW, most commonly 4-way and 8-way team games.
Freeflying
is
relatively
new
in
skydiving
(15yrs
or
so)
and
involves
multiple
orientations
of
the
body
in
flight
such
as
Head-Down
and
Sit-Flying.
Speeds
of
descent
are
faster
than
traditional
RW
at
~170mph.
FreeFlying
games
are
called
Vertical
Relative
Work
(VRW).
Teams
of
two
or
four
fliers
(3
or 5
if
you
remember
there
is a
camera
person
too)
compete
much
like
RW
teams
but
with
different
moves.
The
current
World
Record
for
Freeflying
is
69
skydivers
connected
in a
molecular
formation.
FreeStyle
is
like
ballet
in
the
sky.
Beautiful
and
graceful,
this
discipline
challenges
the
skydiver
to
perform
a
dance
with
precision
moves
while
a
camera
wearing
partner
flies
in
very
close
proximity
to
capture
the
routine.
Also
called
Indoor
Skydiving,
Wind
Tunnels
are
great
fun
for
all
ages
just
as a
great
place
to
play
in
the
wind
and
fly
on
the
column
of
air
inside.
Skydivers
use
them
for
training
as
one
minute
in
this
tunnel
equates
to
one
skydive
from
a
plane
and
teams
can
practice
several
skydives
worth
in
less
time
and
without
packing
parachutes
and
having
to
wait
for
the
plane
to
reach
altitude.
There
are
wind
tunnels
all
over
the
world
but
they
are
still
few.
I
believe
there
are
15
or
so
currently
and
cost
several
million
dollars
each
to
build.
Drop
Zones
(DZ)
are
the
skydiving
facilities
where
we
jump.
There
are
drop
zones
by
most
major
cities.
The
USPA
(United
States
Parachute
Association)
has
a
list
of
U.S.
drop
zones.
Boogies
are
organized Skydive
Parties. Usually
over
a
holiday
and
lasting
from
a
few
days
to a
few
weeks,
boogies
draw
jumpers
from
around
the
globe
and
often
feature
multiple
aircraft
and
unique
events
like
Night
Jumps,
Hot
Air
Balloon
Jumps,
Jet
Jumps,
Helicopter
Jumps,
Bi-Plane
Jumps,
etc.
Spectators love to see the
action up close and personal. That's one of many aspects of this
discipline making it so popular and attractive to athletes. Landing
these rocket-ship canopies can put you at 50+ mph across the ground.
Today's
skydiving
gear
is
very
technical.
There
really
is a
lot
of
science
behind
what
we
do.
From
digital
altimeters
that
beep
in
your
ear
to
spring
loaded
reserve
deployments,
we
depend
on
our
gear
to
save
our
lives
jump
after
fun
loving
jump.
SkydiverGirls
was
originally
designed
to
empower
girls
in
all
extreme
sports.
When
you
tackle
an
extreme
fear,
you
learn
that
most
boundaries
are
imaginary.
These
women
have
shown
us
that
through
their
sport
and
shared
their
passion.
I'm
trying
to
get
on
the
Ellen
DeGeneres
Show.
These
are
pleas
from
girls
all
over
the
North
America
asking
Ellen
to
support
our
mission
and
Share
the
Love
of
Life!
If
you'd
like
to
help,
please
tell
Ellen
in
an
email
from
this

Help me get on Ellen!
Here's a
link to her page with a form you can fill out saying you'd like
to see SKYDIVERGIRLS on the Ellen DeGeneres Show. PLEASE HELP,
she wants to hear from you, not only me. Strength in
numbers ya know :-)
Write her
daily if you can!
I'm
fortunate
to
have
been
on
television
a
few
times
and
interviewed
by
lots
of
other
shows.
I do
have
a
hard
time
following
up
and
getting
copies
though
so
if
you
see
SkydiverGirls
covered
somewhere,
please
do
send
me a
link
so I
can
add
it
to
the
list.
